HOm Brass Model - Ferro-Suisse RhB Rhaetian Rhätische Bahn Electric Ge6/6 Krokodil Crocodile #411 - F/P

- Nice model in great shape! We're grading it as "Excellent."
- The paint looks good. Please be sure to check out the photos.
- We've lead-tested the model and found that it runs well. On a scale of 1-10, where 1 is quiet, we'd rate the running noise level at 4.
- The serial number plate under the lead truck indicates that this is model 348.
- It runs on TT track.
- The original box is included.
- Nice overall detail!
- The parts bag is included.
- Operating directional headlights.
- Precision gears lead to optimal running condition.
- The color corresponds to the original brown of the original Ge6 /6. The whole model is made up of more than 900 parts, almost all brass.
- This model was built to easily take radii of 40 centimeters (about 16").
- The bulbs are 1.5 volts.
- From what we can tell on the info sheet, it appears that it can be run using the pantographs; it's set at the factory for rail operation. We think the instructions say: "For overhead line operation, please set the selector to 'O.'"
- 'If a hexagon bolt loosens on the pushrod drive, it can be tightened again with the enclosed Allen wrench.'
ON THE "KROKODIL":
- This loco is called a "Crocodile" because it has long "noses" on each end, reminiscent of the snout of a crocodile.
- The Ge6/6 (a.k.a, the "Rhaetian Crocodile") still run passenger trains on special occasions and are used on freight trains in busy periods.
- The Rhaetian Railway is a Swiss transport company that owns the largest network of all private railway operators in Switzerland. The network is located almost entirely within Graubünden.
- It serves a number of major tourist destinations, such as St. Moritz and Davos.
- All RhB lines are 3'-3-3/8" gauge wide and electrified.
- The network currently contains 84 tunnels and 383 bridges.
- On August 13, 2014, a passenger train was struck by a landslide and derailed at Tiefencastel, Graubünden. Eleven people were injured.
- In 1997, the RhB was used as a prototype for the Nord Express in the 20th Century Fox animated film "Anastasia." Several landmarks were also included.
SOME BASIC INFO FROM THE INFO SHEET:
- This legendary type of locomotive is easily one of the most interesting electric locomotives of the Rhb.
- This loco is a narrow - gauge version of the De6 / 6 built for the SBB in 1924 - 26; it has the same design in both the mechanical and the electrical version. The three box and two interframe sections show a loco type that can move quite a bit. The four power transmissions with SLM-sloping and dome-like elements between the gearbox and the drive wheels also contribute to their good looks.
- Even though the proven cantilever drive is viewed today as antiquated, the operational experience over the last 80 years has been more than good.
- The numbers 401 - 415 were acquired between 1921-1928.
- The 20s were the economically unstable times. Switzerland did not have any fossil fuel sources worth mentioning and imports from abroad became increasingly scarce. But Switzerland had white coal: water, and this was used in the form of electricity. It is therefore no coincidence that many roads enforced track electrification at the time. The RhB was no exception. When the first Krokodil began operations in 1921, RhB's network was already largely "under wire."
- In the past 80 years, the famous RhB "Crocodiles" have experienced little visible change. On closer inspection, however, in addition to the normal and prescribed audits, improvements, or changes, we have seen the alternation of locks, handles, wipers, roof superstructures, various pantographs, train fuses, heating cables, ventilation grates, vacuum holders, gray substructures (originally black), and brakes.
- In 1950, a significant change was made to the numbers 404, 406, 407 and 411when an electrical brake resistor was installed on the roof.
- The Ge6 /6 were in uninterrupted service between delivery from 1921 to 1965.For many years they were the backbone of the RhB. From 1965, they were replaced by the new Ge4/4 (#601 - 610).
- In 1984, the time had come: the "Crocodiles" were gradually taken out of service. Other, more modern locomotive types replaced them. From time to time, the remaining relics are used for special voyages. The Rhb knows that this loco has a cultural property, the preservation of which is not cheap, but they believe is necessary.
- To represent all variants of the prototype, the numbers 402, 404, 405, 406, 411, and 414 were imported as models by Ferro-Suisse.
- No one here in our office speaks or reads German, but we've done our best to look through the info sheet and glean what we can; very nice model!
