  • PROTOTYPE INFO: The Central Vermont Railway was a subsidiary of Canadian National Railways, providing a link between Canada and the U.S. Eastern Seaboard. In 1928, the CV ordered 10 Texas-type locomotives from ALCo to beef up the freight service, and were designated Class T-3a. Although these were the lightest 2-10-4s in North America, their weight limited them to service north of Brattleboro, VT. With their small 60-inch drivers, they were well suited to their hilly service area. All served with Vanderbilt tenders and their vestibule cabs were a distinctive feature.
