SOME INTERESTING HISTORY ON THE 2-6-8-0:

This type of loco is unusual in that it has a different number of driving axles in each set. It was only found in the U.S.A.; the GN and the Alabama Great Southern (predecessor to SOU) were the sole users of this type. GN ordered and received 35 in 1910 (#1950 - 1984), and these were designated as "M-1." In 1926-27, the M-1s were rebuilt and redesignated as class "M-2." Most of the M-2s did not last long, as many were converted to O-7s between 1929-31. Thirteen exceptions did not retire until 1949-54.

The AGS ordered and received one of this designation, #300.

The Erie Railroad briefly had one numbered #2900, but it was rebuilt to a 2-8-0 after only 6 years in service. None of the originals are preserved.
