The Great Northern S-1 was a class of six 4-8-4 "Northern" type steam locomotives built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works in 1929 for the Great Northern Railway. Initially used for passenger service, the S-1s were known for their 73-inch drivers and dual-service capability, though they were later transferred to freight service after the arrival of the faster S-2 class. The six locomotives were numbered 2550 through 2555, and despite their success, none of the S-1s were preserved.
