Chicago, Burlington & Quincy / Fort Worth & Denver Sam Houston Zephyr Train Set

Facts & Prototype Info: The Sam Houston Zephyr you see here is representative of that which began service on January 13, 1945 and remained as such well into the mid-1950'S. The Sam ran in the morning Houston to Dallas, then to Fort Worth.

Features of this Eagle Models Project:

  • Eagle designed dies used to press corrugations; This is the first time that a corrugated train was simulated in much the same manner as the prototype! The results are awesome

  • Baggage #900 "SILVER LIGHT" - Originally assigned to Silver Streak Zephyr April, 1940. Assigned to Sam Houston Zephyr January, 1945. Entered CB&Q pool service in early 1960's. At merger, became BN 900, thence Amtrak 1000
  • 72' 52-Seat Coach #4700 "SILVER CHARIOT" - Entered pool service in 1938. Assigned to Sam Houston Zephyr January, 1945. Re-entered pool service in mid-1960's. At merger, became BN 5280. Not on Amtrak roster
  • 72' 52-Seat Coach Car #4701 "SILVER TRAIL" - Entered CB&Q pool service in 1938. Assigned to Sam Houston Zephyr January, 1945. Re-entered pool service in mid-1960's. At merger, became BN 5281. Not on Amtrak roster. (This car had some goo on the inside of the window but we were able to remove it and there is just a faint smudging which you can only see at certain angles - see photos)
  • 72' 52-Seat Divided Coach #4712 "SILVER CROWN" - Originally assigned to the AkSarBen Zephyr in 1940. The "Jim Crow" partition and extra bathroom were installed in CB&Q shops prior to being assigned to Sam Houston Zephyr January, 1945. Entered CB&Q pool service in early 1960's. At merger, became BN 5290. Not on Amtrak roster. Presently at the Atchison Railroad Museum - Atchison, Kansas
  • Diner Observation #302 "SILVER HOURS" - Originally assigned to service on the AkSarBen Zephyr in 1940. Assigned to Sam Houston Zephyr January, 1945. Entered pool service in February, 1965. On CB&Q roster January 4, 1968. Not on BN or Amtrak rosters. Presently at the Galveston Railroad Museum - Galveston, Texas
