New York Central No. 999, the "Queen of Speed". The key to the Empire State's initial fame was a specially outfitted, 37-foot (11 m)-long American-type 4-4-0 steam locomotive that was built in West Albany, New York especially to haul the train. The handmade unit was mounted on 86" diameter driving wheels, and was the first of its kind to have brakes mounted to the front truck. The bands, pipes, and trim were highly polished; the boiler, smokestack, domes, cab, and tender were given a black satin finish, and "Empire State Express" was applied to the sides of the tender in 2 ft 6 in (762 mm) high gold leaf lettering.

A little history on the Frisco Firefly:

Built in 1939 and launched in 1940 the #1026 Streamlined Version made its maiden revenue run from Tulsa OK to Kansas City MO., marking a new era in passenger service. The Firefly was the first streamliner on the Frisco, the first streamliner to be designed and built in the southwest, and at the time, one of only three such trains in the U.S.

The Firefly was equipped with every modern aerodynamic feature of its time including a torpedo type jacket on the locomotive, enclosed articulated vestibules, and lower panel skirting on the tender as well. The inaugural consist included engine #1026, Mail-Coach Combination #82, Chair Car #754, and Cafe-Lounge #1501.

For this project PSC will be producing the locomotive and tender. A limited edition "high gloss" option will be available.

PSC will be offering the NYC 4-6-4 J-3a Empire State Express Streamlined model in 6 different variations. The years covered will be from 1941 to 1948,

A little history on the 1941 model. Coincidence has it that the inaugural run of this beautiful train did not receive as much fan-fare as expected. It's first day of operation was December 7, 1941, which just happened to be the same day Pearl Harbor was attacked.

The Historic "Abraham Lincoln Funeral Train"

On April 21, 1865, a train carrying the coffin of assassinated President Abraham Lincoln leaves Washington, D.C. on its way to Springfield, Illinois, where he would be buried on May 4.

The train carrying Lincoln's body traveled through 180 cities and seven states on its way to Lincoln's home state of Illinois. Scheduled stops for the special funeral train were published in newspapers. At each stop, Lincoln's coffin was taken off the train, placed on an elaborately decorated horse-drawn hearse and led by solemn processions to a public building for viewing. In cities as large as Columbus, Ohio, and as small as Herkimer, New York, thousands of mourners flocked to pay tribute to the slain president. In Philadelphia, Lincoln's body lay in state on in the east wing of Independence Hall, the same site where the Declaration of Independence was signed. Newspapers reported that people had to wait more than five hours to pass by the president's coffin in some cities.

Approximately 300 people accompanied Lincoln's body on the 1,654-mile journey, including his eldest son Robert. Also on the train was a coffin containing the body of Lincoln's son Willie, who had died in 1862 at the age of 11 of typhoid fever during Lincoln's second year in office. Willie's body had been disinterred from a plot in Washington, D.C. after Lincoln's death so he could be buried alongside his father at the family plot in Springfield.

In 1911, a prairie fire near Minneapolis, Minnesota, destroyed the train car that had so famously carried Lincoln's body to its final resting place.
___________________________________________

In this historic collection we are offering a set which includes the following cars:

A) The "Nashville" 4-4-0 locomotive of the Cleveland, Columbus and Cincinnati Railroad, which pulled the Lincoln funeral train for part of the 1,666-mile distance from Washington to Springfield, Illinois.

B) The "United States" Car - which was used to transport the coffins of President Abraham Lincoln and his son William "Willie" for burial in Springfield,IL. It was built by the United States Military Railroads for President Lincoln's use, however he never saw the car in life. After his burial it was sold to a private individual and later caught fire, in which it was destroyed in 1911. The car was of wood construction with sixteen special wheels of wide tread which allowed it to operate on various gauges of track. The interior was divided into three rooms, heated by two wood stoves. Back in 1865 it was considered 'state of the art' design.

C) The "Officers" Car - The car intended for the family of the President and the Congressional Committee, belonged to the Philadelphia, Wilmington & Baltimore railroad company, ordinarily used by the President and Directors of the company. It was divided into four compartments, thus: Parlor, chamber, dining room and kitchen; with water tanks and gasometer. The whole car was fitted up in the most elegant and costly manner.

The model will have the following:

1. Coreless can motor.
2. Working valve gear.
3. Lighted cab interior and cars.
4. Polished reflectors.
5. Gauge faces
6. Full cab interior.
7. Simulated caskets in "United States" Presidential Car.
8. Full interiors in cars.
9. Wood presentation box with velvet line interior.
10.Special etched plate on box.
11.Authenticated paint schemes.

Don't miss out on this rare opportunity!
