Here is some interesting information on this model from the files of Don Drew:

The prototype for this model went to the Hart & Horning Lumber Company, Woodville, Michigan in 1890. Then to the El Dorado Lumber Company, Camino, California in 1901. It became the Mich-California Company #2 in 1917.

The engine operated until 1951 and was considered to be the oldest Shay in use at the time of its retirement and possible the oldest Shay in existence.
